Definition
A characteristic feature, expression, or idiom belonging to Celtic languages, cultures, or peoples; the study and appreciation of Celtic cultures.
Etymology
From Celtic plus the suffix -ism (a system or characteristic). This term emerged in the 19th century as scholars developed specialized vocabulary to discuss linguistic and cultural features unique to or prominent in Celtic traditions.
Kelly Says
The Irish love of storytelling and poetry is such a famous 'Celticism' that it became a stereotype—but there's actually truth buried in it: Celtic languages have incredible sound patterns and word structures that almost naturally encourage elaborate speech.
