Definition
The quality of being changeable; the state of being capable of change or alteration.
Etymology
From 'changeable' plus '-ness' suffix (from Old English '-ness'). This creates a synonym for 'changeability' but uses the older Germanic '-ness' suffix instead of the Latinate '-ity.'
Kelly Says
English speakers often have both Germanic and Latinate ways to say the same thing—'changeableness' sounds older and more poetic, while 'changeability' sounds modern and scientific, letting writers pick the tone they want.
