Definition
A type of large, sweet winter pear with a distinctive flat shape, used especially in cooking and desserts.
Etymology
Named after Chaumontel, a region in France known for fruit cultivation. The pear variety was developed and became famous in that area during the 17th century.
Kelly Says
Chaumontel pears are one of the few fruits that actually ripen AFTER harvest—you pick them hard, store them cool, and they transform into creamy sweetness weeks later, making them perfect for medieval feasting.
