Definition
Plural of cheechako; multiple newcomers or inexperienced people, especially in northern frontier contexts.
Etymology
Standard English pluralization of cheechako. Became common in Yukon and Alaskan literature and historical accounts from the 1890s onward.
Kelly Says
Cheechakos were so common during the gold rush that they had a reputation—they'd wear fancy city clothes in subzero temperatures and had to learn survival skills the hard way or go home broke.
