Etymology
From coenenchyma + -ous (full of, possessing). This adjective form allows biologists to describe characteristics of organisms with integrated tissue systems.

When scientists want to describe a colonial coral as 'having that shared-tissue thing going on,' they use this word—it's the technical way of saying an organism is fundamentally built as a connected community rather than individual units.
