Definition
Plural of colloquy; multiple conversations or discussions between two or more people, often formal or literary in nature.
Etymology
From Latin colloquium (col- 'together' + loqui 'to speak'), with English plural form. Medieval scholars used the term for religious debates and formal dialogues.
Kelly Says
Colloquies were the medieval version of podcasts—think of them as transcribed conversations between important thinkers published as books for other scholars to read and debate. Some of the most influential ideas in history spread through colloquies rather than formal treatises.
