Etymology
From Latin commorari ('to dwell together'), from 'com-' (together) + morari (to dwell). The -ant suffix marks it as an adjective or agent noun describing the person doing the dwelling.

A 'commorant' is essentially anyone living in shared space—which used to mean almost everyone, in villages and extended families. The rise of privacy and single-person households is historically bizarre and might be temporary.
