Definition
Plural form of coranto; multiple instances of the lively 16th-17th century court dance or the musical pieces composed for it.
Etymology
From the plural of Italian 'corrente' through English adoption of the dance form and its name during the Renaissance period.
Kelly Says
When you see the plural 'corantos' in historical records, you're often reading about actual court events where musicians played the same dance multiple times—Renaissance people danced the same hit repeatedly just like modern concert audiences request encores.
