Definition
An emotion or desire that opposes or contradicts another passion; a conflicting feeling or motivation.
Etymology
From counter- (against) + passion (from Latin passio, 'suffering' or 'emotion'). Philosophical term describing internal emotional conflicts.
Kelly Says
The concept of counterpassion was crucial to medieval and Renaissance philosophy—thinkers used it to explain moral struggles, like when your love for someone conflicts with your sense of justice.
