Definition
To gather together, accumulate, or heap up; to increase progressively by adding together.
Etymology
From Latin 'cumulatus,' past participle of 'cumulare' (to heap or pile up); the word entered English in the 16th century and means to accumulate or collect gradually.
Kelly Says
Cumulate is the verb form of the same Latin root that gives us 'cumulus' clouds—clouds literally accumulate water droplets, which is why they're called 'heap' clouds, connecting meteorology back to the word's original meaning.
