Cyrillian

/sɪˈrɪliən/ adjective

Definition

Relating to or characteristic of Saint Cyril or the Cyrillic script and alphabet he is credited with developing.

Etymology

From Saint Cyril (9th century) plus '-ian' (relating to). Cyril was a Byzantine missionary who, along with his brother Methodius, created a writing system for Slavic languages.

Kelly Says

Saint Cyril didn't invent the modern Cyrillic script—that came later—but his legacy was so powerful that Russian, Ukrainian, and Serbian still honor his name by using 'Cyrillic' letters.
