Dès-vu

/deɪ ˈvuː/ noun

Definition

The awareness that this will become a memory, the strange feeling of experiencing a moment while simultaneously knowing you'll remember it later. It's the real-time recognition of a memory being formed.

Etymology

French for 'already seen,' created as the opposite of 'déjà vu.' While déjà vu is the feeling of having experienced something before, dès vu is the conscious awareness that you're creating a future memory in the present moment.

Kelly Says

Dès vu often occurs during significant moments - graduations, first kisses, last goodbyes - when our brain seems to step outside time and observe itself creating lasting memories. It's a uniquely human experience that combines consciousness, memory, and temporal awareness in a single moment.
