Definition
To remove moisture or humidity from air or an enclosed space, making it less damp.
Etymology
From de- (remove) + humidity + -fy (to make or cause to become). This technical verb emerged in the early 20th century alongside mechanical cooling and air control technology.
Kelly Says
The fascinating thing about how dehumidifiers work is that they're basically tiny air conditioners—they use the same cooling principle to make water droplets condense out of humid air.
