A chemical compound that exists in two or more different forms but can shift between them, similar to but distinct from an isomer.
Etymology
From Greek 'desmos' (bond) and 'tropos' (turning, direction). Created in chemistry to describe molecules that can rearrange their bonds and switch forms.
