Definition
Able to be devoured or consumed; worthy of being eaten eagerly or greedily.
Etymology
From 'devour' (to eat greedily or consume quickly) plus '-able' suffix (capable of being). 'Devour' comes from Latin 'devorare' (to swallow down), from 'de-' (down) plus 'vorare' (to swallow).
Kelly Says
The word 'devourable' is almost extinct, but it's a perfect example of how English once made '-able' adjectives out of almost every verb—you could theoretically make any food 'devourable,' but we stopped doing this and just say 'delicious' instead.
