Definition
A medical condition where dextrose (a type of sugar) is present in urine, usually indicating a problem with blood sugar control or kidney function.
Etymology
From dextro- (Latin dexter, 'right') + -ose (sugar suffix) + urine + -ia (condition). The term emerged in medical terminology during the 19th century as doctors began analyzing urine composition and identifying sugars in it.

Medieval doctors would taste urine to diagnose disease—dextrosuria got its name because dextrose is sweet to the taste, and the presence of it in urine was one of the first diagnostic clues for diabetes!
