Definition
The act of using a phone to call someone by pressing numbered buttons or rotating a dial.
Etymology
From 'dial' which came from the Old French 'duel' meaning 'two' or 'double,' originally referring to the clock face shape; 'dial' evolved to mean the numbered face of a phone.
Kelly Says
The word 'dialling' is becoming quaint—landline dials spinning mechanical numbers are now museum pieces, replaced by touchscreens and voice commands.
