Etymology
From Greek 'dictyon' meaning 'net' or 'mesh,' combined with the Latin scientific family suffix '-idae.' This taxonomic name was assigned because of the characteristic mesh or lace-like appearance of their webs, which are distinctly different from the concentric patterns of orb weavers.
