Definition
A small chamber or cavity in a plant, especially an ant-house or specialized structure that harbors ants or other organisms.
Etymology
From Latin 'domus' (house) + diminutive suffix '-ium'. Scientific term borrowed directly from Latin to describe plant structures that function as homes.
Kelly Says
Some plants have literally evolved tiny apartments for ants—these domatia (plural) are so specific that certain ants live exclusively in them, creating a biological home-rental system millions of years old.
