Definition
Relating to or situated upon an epiphragm, a membrane or barrier that seals or covers a structure.
Etymology
From Greek 'epi-' (upon) + 'phragma' (fence, barrier, from 'phrassein' meaning 'to enclose'), plus the adjective suffix '-al.'
Kelly Says
Some snails and other creatures create epephragmal seals to survive harsh conditions—it's like nature's vacuum-sealed container, allowing them to wait out droughts and freezes!
