Definition
Something that makes things equal or comparable; a person or thing that equips or makes things equivalent.
Etymology
From Latin 'equiparans', the present participle of 'equiparare' (to make equal), combining 'equi-' (equal) + 'parare' (to make). The '-ant' ending preserves the participial form indicating an agent that performs the action of equating.
Kelly Says
This is an extremely rare technical term that appears mostly in medieval Latin texts and academic philosophy—it describes the active role of something that creates equality, a concept more discussed in theory than actually named in practice!
