Definition
Having the quality of fixing, preserving, or setting something in place; serving as a fixative.
Etymology
From Latin 'fixus' plus '-ive' (having the quality of). A rare or archaic adjective form less common than 'fixative.'
Kelly Says
This word is mostly extinct, but it shows how English used to have more adjective forms—'fixive' would mean 'having the power to fix' where we now just say 'fixative' and let it work as both noun and adjective.
