Definition
A rapid, continuous burst of gunfire from multiple weapons, or a sudden overwhelming barrage of anything.
Etymology
From French fusillade, derived from fusil (light musket). Named for the rapid firing effect created by multiple soldiers shooting their fusils in sequence.
Kelly Says
A fusillade isn't just any gunfire—it's that terrifying sound of multiple weapons firing in rapid succession, a term so vivid that we now use it for overwhelming bursts of anything: 'a fusillade of questions.'
