Definition
A fizzy or carbonated drink, particularly a type of soft drink popular in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries.
Etymology
From Turkish and Arabic, derived from the same root as 'gazogene,' referring to gas and carbonation. It entered English from Levantine trade and cultural exchange.
Kelly Says
Gazoz is still the word for soda in Turkey and the Middle East—it's one of the few English words that came full circle, with 'gaze' (gas) being a French word originally borrowed from Italian!
