Definition
The thick tendons or muscles at the back of the thigh that bend the knee and extend the hip, or plural third-person singular verb form of hamstring.
Etymology
From 'ham' (hock, the joint) + 'string' (the cord-like tendon), literally the strings that connect the hind leg joint.
Kelly Says
Your hamstrings are so powerful that runners and athletes obsess over them—a pulled hamstring can bench a professional athlete for months, showing how critical these tendons are.
