Definition
A benign (non-cancerous) tumor made up of tangled blood vessels, often appearing as a red or purple spot or bump on the skin.
Etymology
From Greek 'haima' (blood) + 'angeion' (vessel) + '-oma' (tumor). Literally a 'blood vessel tumor,' composed entirely of abnormal blood vessels.
Kelly Says
Many babies are born with hemangiomas called 'strawberry marks'—they're just clusters of excess blood vessels that usually shrink and disappear on their own without any treatment needed!
