Definition
A member of a Bantu-speaking people native to Namibia and Botswana, or the language spoken by this group.
Etymology
From the Herero language itself, 'herero' meaning 'people' or referring to the ethnic group. The word entered English as a ethnographic term in the 19th century.
Kelly Says
The Herero people have a devastating history: in the early 1900s, German colonial forces committed genocide against them, killing tens of thousands in what many historians recognize as one of the first modern genocides.
