Definition
The ethnic group and descendants of the Mongol Empire, which ruled much of Asia and Eastern Europe from the 13th to 15th centuries under Genghis Khan.
Etymology
From Mongol 'Mongol,' meaning 'brave' or 'fierce.' The word became known worldwide through the massive empire built by Genghis Khan and his successors, one of history's largest empires.
Kelly Says
The Mongol Empire was the most connected the world had ever been before the Industrial Revolution—the 'Mongol Peace' actually increased trade and cultural exchange across Eurasia. Hollywood shows them as purely destructive, but they were also remarkable administrators and trade promoters who connected East and West like never before.
