Moustache

/məˈstæʃ/ noun

Definition

Hair that grows on the upper lip above the mouth, often grown long and styled for appearance.

Etymology

From French moustache, from Italian mostaccio, possibly from Greek mustax meaning 'upper lip.' The term entered English in the 16th century as facial hair styling became fashionable among European nobility.

Kelly Says

Victorian men obsessed over moustaches so much they invented special cups with lids to protect their mustaches while drinking hot tea—these 'mustache cups' were status symbols, and some men spent an hour daily curling and waxing theirs with special oils.
