Redoing

/ˌriːˈduː.ɪŋ/ verb

Definition

Doing something again, usually because you want to improve it or because the first attempt was wrong or unsatisfactory.

Etymology

From 're-' (again, back) + 'doing' (present participle of 'do'). The 're-' prefix comes from Latin and was already common in Old English. 'Redoing' as a gerund became increasingly common in modern English as repeated work became more necessary in industrial and digital contexts.

Kelly Says

The 're-' prefix is one of the most powerful in English—you can add it to almost any verb to mean doing it again (redo, retake, rewrite, rehear). This flexibility makes it perfect for describing the modern world where we constantly iterate, edit, and improve rather than getting things right the first time.
