Etymology
From 'romantic' (from the Romantic literary and artistic movement), which comes from 'romance' (from Old French, meaning 'story' or 'poem'). The literary movement emphasized emotion over reason.

The Romantic era of the 1800s literally changed how humans think about love and art—Romantics decided that feelings and imagination mattered more than boring facts and logic. That's why today we still call someone a 'romantic' as a compliment, even though some of their ideas were pretty impractical.
