Definition
Wet or soaked with liquid, or relating to a drinking cup designed for small children with a lid and spout to prevent spilling.
Etymology
From 'sip,' meaning to drink in small amounts, plus the diminutive '-y' suffix. The 'sippy cup' emerged as a brand name in the 1980s that became generic.
Kelly Says
Sippy cups were supposed to be the brilliant solution to toddlers throwing drink across the room—but many speech experts now worry they might actually delay how children learn to drink normally.
